The name “Pigeon Blacksmith” comes from an old iron forge built by Isaac Love in the early 1800’s. The forge stands on the banks of the Little Pigeon River, called Old Mill. Yes, because when the first European colonists were in the Americas, there were flocks of pigeons that roamed the coast.

For the next few centuries, Pigeon Forge was part of the Revolutionary War that helped build the Appalachian region, but it remained a small mountain village with no major roads leading out of the country. In the early 1900s, the nearest railroad station was Sevier, but when the Great Smoky Mountains National Park opened in 1934, the Tennessee Valley Authority had to move away from tourism in Pigeon Forge. Improvements in highways and the establishment of many campsites have brought more people to this remote area.

Many people choose Pigeon Forge as their annual home, and there are many schools, activities, and places to live around the small town and community. Residents and school age children are part of the Sevier County school system and students typically attend Northview Elementary, Pigeon Forge Elementary, Sevierville Middle School and Seymour High School, or Sevier County High School. High school is located at Pitman High School in Gatlinburg, outside of Pigeon Forge.
