Things To Do In Fort Collins Colorado – We decided to compile a list of things you’ll love about Fort Collins and whittle it down to 31 because the list would easily be in the hundreds if we couldn’t hit the brakes. This list is just a small portion of what’s on offer in Fort Collins, and we welcome you to comment and add anything we’ve missed. Horsetooth Reservoir is one of Colorado’s most beautiful outdoor havens and is located just minutes from Old Town Fort Collins. The reservoirs are popular recreation areas for activities such as fishing, swimming, boating, stand up paddleboarding, boating, water skiing, hiking and camping. There are miles of trails around the reservoir, as well as mountain biking, horseback riding, and hiking. The east side of the reservoir is also one of the best places in Colorado for bouldering.

The Cache la Poudre (pronounced poo-der) River is one of Fort Collins’ most popular attractions and appears to be the only nationally designated “Wild and Beautiful” river in Colorado. Not to mention that Colorado Highway 14, which runs along the river, is also a designated Colorado Sights and History route. Poudre caters to outdoor enthusiasts, offering activities such as rafting (class III-IV rapids), hiking, biking, camping, kayaking and fishing. And when winter comes, Poudre is home to sports like snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling.

Why does the river have such an interesting name, you ask? According to legend, the Poudre River is where French-Canadian trappers hid their gunpowder during a snowstorm in the early 1800s. The name Cache la Poudre is a French expression for “the place where the powder is hidden.”
That’s what Fort Collins is famous for. That’s why Fort Collins is called the craft beer capital of Colorado. Did you know there are more than 21 craft breweries in Fort Collins? Run by New Belgium Brewing and Odell Brewing Co, the Fort Collins brewery is absolutely stunning.
The Exchange, located at 200 North College Avenue in Old Town, serves craft food and drinks served out of shipping container vans. Churn, the efforts of Little Man Ice Cream, is anchored in the outer center quadrant. Other notable companies hosted on the Exchange include Crooked Stave Craftsman Crooked Projects; Burger Lab, which offers unique burger combos; local spirits from CopperMuse Distillery; Chick’nCone, with a waffle cone filled with chicken; Vatos Tacos and Tequila, which serves delicious street tacos; La Piadina, which serves flat Italian sandwiches; and indoor miniature golf at Old Town Putt.
The Gardens on Spring Creek recently underwent a major renovation and redesign. Kids and adults alike will fall in love with the new Conservatory Butterfly House, a 1,500-square-foot glass enclosure that is the first and only permanent facility in northern Colorado. There are as many as 400 free-flying butterflies in North America. In addition, Gardens on Spring Creek hosts a number of outdoor concerts, classes and seasonal events such as Pumpkins on Parade and Garden of Lights.

Diners and locals alike love Washington’s, one of the city’s newest music venues anchored by a thriving music scene. This Old Town Fort Collins landmark was purchased by the Bohemian Foundation and renovated with state-of-the-art sound and lighting systems and hosts events large and small.
Colorado State University’s Annual Flower Experiment Garden is truly a utopia and is one of the most beautiful areas in Fort Collins. The park is open daily from May to September (sometimes in October, weather permitting) and is free to the public.
Franklin Avery is credited with the wide streets of Fort Collins because he surveyed the city in 1873. Avery later founded the First National Bank and was a major force in creating the water projects that depended on the agricultural conditions of northern Colorado. In 1879, Avery built the family home on the corner of Mountain Avenue and Meldrum Street, which remains today. Tours and special events are organized at this historic landmark. You definitely don’t want to miss their 4th of July celebration!

Storybook New Home Community Fort Collins, Colorado
This trolley is the only restored urban streetcar operating in the western US today. Car 21 was restored to its original 1919 condition by the volunteer-run Urban Railroad Association, and Car 25 was recently unveiled after being restored to its 1951 condition. The trolley travels 3 miles from City Park to Old Town at weekends and during the holiday season.
City Park is a very large park near downtown Fort Collins and is home to Lake Sheldon and the City Park Pool (Open Memorial Day – Labor Day). This beautiful park offers beautiful surroundings and Lake Sheldon for fishing, boating, and sometimes ice skating in the winter. Take a self-guided tree walk in the park which has 223 types of trees.
Simply put, Greyrock is awesome. This amazing Cache la Poudre River Canyon hike is less than 20 minutes from Old Town Fort Collins. This moderate-ability hike has two trail options: the Meadows Trail (about 7.4 miles) and the Greyrock Summit Trail (about 5.5 miles), both of which offer beautiful views. The elevation gain on this route is nearly 2,000 feet and the summit is 7,480 feet. This hike is definitely a challenge that comes with some boulders towards the end. But it’s worth it because it offers fantastic 360-degree views of the Poudre River Gorge.
Against the stunning natural backdrop of Lory State Park, Arthur’s Rock offers some of the most spectacular views of Horsetooth Reservoir and the city of Fort Collins. Arthur’s Rock is a short drive from Fort Collins and a fairly short hike as well. This approximately two-mile trail winds through open prairie and stunning mountain views on the way to the summit of Arthur’s Rock, which climbs to an elevation of 6,780 feet. There’s also a fantastic natural staircase that takes you to the top of the cliff, which is a great spot for a picnic if you’ve packed a lunch.

The Farm offers a hands-on experience for kids and families. This is a unique family-friendly attraction in Fort Collins that allows children to learn about farm life.
Old Town Fort Collins is designated as a National and Local Historic District with 28 historic buildings. You’ll notice the uncanny resemblance to Disneyland USA Main Street as you stroll through Old Town. We are proud to say that Main Street USA has copied Fort Collins! The old town is full of local boutiques, cafes, antique shops, retail shops and sweet and confectionery shops. There are also many restaurants serving a wide variety of food for all tastes. Pro tip: Be sure to explore the alleyways when downtown to admire the local art, beautiful flowers, and welcoming lights.
One of the most popular forms of public art in Fort Collins is Pianos About Town. Over 100 pianos were painted and distributed at locations throughout Fort Collins. Feel free to find them and give them a play. It’s not uncommon to pass by and see amateur (and professional) pianists making beautiful music all over town.
There is a thriving food truck scene in Fort Collins. On select Tuesday nights during the summer, food trucks gather at City Park to serve up delicious food in the Food Truck Rally. Food trucks also go to many local breweries.

Did you know that Fort Collins is home to the Holiday Twin Drive-In, one of only six drive-in movie lots left in Colorado and only one of 348 left nationwide? Dual features incorporate the May-September screen.
Jessup Farm Craft Village is home to artisan and locally sourced businesses in rebuilt and renovated chicken coops, bakery cellars, saddle and barn shops, and old farmhouses: Jessup Ranch is one of Fort Collins. The best and most complete agricultural stand in the Growing Area. It has received special conservation designations from city, state and federal governments. The farm is south of the intersection of Prospect and Timberline on the east side of the road.
Fort Collins loves its music scene, and for good reason. The outdoor concert series usually starts in May and lasts until October, but don’t worry. Festivals, events and other outdoor programs usually include live music, so you can catch the tunes outside most of the year in Fort Collins.
