Things To Do In Northern Colorado Today – We decided to compile a list of things that will make you love Fort Collins, and we cut it at 31, because if we hadn’t hit the brakes, the list would have been in the hundreds. This list is just a sampling of what Fort Collins has to offer, and we welcome you to comment and add anything we missed. Horsetooth Reservoir is one of Colorado’s most beautiful outdoor havens and is just minutes from Old Town Fort Collins. The reservoir is a popular recreational area, including fishing, swimming, boating, stand-up paddle boarding, boating, water skiing, hiking, and camping. There are miles of trails around the reservoir, as well as mountain biking, horseback riding and hiking. The east side of the reservoir is also one of the best rock climbing spots in Colorado.
Things To Do In Northern Colorado Today
The Cache la Poudre River (pronounced poo-der) is one of Fort Collins’ most popular attractions and is Colorado’s only nationally designated “Wild and Natural” river. Not to mention that Colorado Highway 14, which runs alongside the river, is also called the Colorado Scenic and Historic Beltway. Poudre is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts, offering activities such as rafting (class III-IV rapids), hiking, biking, camping, canoeing and fishing. In winter, Poudre hosts sports such as snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

Why does the river have such an interesting name, you ask? Historically, the Poudre River was where French-Canadian hunters stashed gunpowder during a blizzard in the early 1800s. The name Cache la Poudre is a French phrase meaning “the place where gunpowder is stored”.

Other important institutions on the stock exchange include the Crooked Stave Artisan Beer Project; burger lab offering unique burger combinations; local spirits from CopperMuse Distillery; Chick’nCone, which features waffle cones stuffed with fried chicken; Vatos Tacos and Tequila serving delicious street tacos; La Piadina, which serves an Italian flatbread sandwich; and indoor mini golf at Old Town Putt.
Gardens at Spring Creek has recently undergone a major renovation and redesign. Kids and adults alike will fall in love with the new Conservatory Butterfly House, a 1,500-square-foot glass enclosure, the first and only permanent installation of its kind in Northern Colorado. Contains 400 free North American butterflies. In addition, Gardens on Spring Creek hosts outdoor concert series, classes, and seasonal events such as Pumpkins on Parade and Garden of Lights.
Best Things To Do In Fort Collins
Visitors and locals alike await a feast at Washington, one of the city’s newest venues anchoring the ever-growing music scene. This Old Town Fort Collins landmark was purchased by the Bohemian Foundation and renovated with a state-of-the-art sound and lighting system and hosts games small and big.
Colorado State University’s Annual Flower Trial Garden is truly a utopia and one of Fort Collins’ most beautiful areas. The garden is open daily from May to September (sometimes in October, weather permitting) and is free to the public.
Franklin Avery is the man to thank for the wide streets of Fort Collins when surveying the town in 1873. Avery later founded First National Bank and was the force behind the creation of water projects that serve the agricultural environment of northern Colorado. In 1879, Avery built the family home on the corner of Mountain Avenue and Meldrum Street where it is today. Tours and special events are organized at this historic landmark. You don’t want to miss the 4th of July celebrations!
Fort Collins is the cultural center of Northern Colorado. The city is filled with so many amazing museums and art galleries that it’s hard to pick just one to visit. Here is a list of the best places to enjoy some cultural experiences.
Fort Collins Events
This streetcar is the only urban streetcar in the western United States to be restored today. Car 21 was restored to its original 1919 condition by the volunteer-run Municipal Railroad Association, and car 25 was introduced recently after being restored to 1951 condition. The trolleybus travels 5 km from the City Park to the Old Town on weekends and during the summer holidays.
City Park It is a very large park near downtown Fort Collins and is home to Sheldon Lake and the City Park Pool (open Memorial Day-Labor Day). This charming park offers beautiful surroundings and Lake Sheldon for fishing, paddle boating and sometimes ice skating in the winter. Take a self-guided tour of the tree park, which is home to 223 tree species.
Greyrock is simply amazing. This spectacular Cache la Poudre River Canyon hike is less than 20 minutes from Old Town Fort Collins. This intermediate hike has two trail options: the Meadows Trail (approximately 7.4 miles round trip) and the Greyrock Summit Trail (approximately 8.5 miles), both of which offer great views. The difference in altitude on this hike is almost 2,000 meters, and the summit is 7,480 meters. This journey is definitely a challenge that comes with a small bump towards the end. However, the payoff is well worth it, as the Poudre River Gorge offers breathtaking 360-degree views.
With the stunning natural backdrop of Lory State Park, Arthur’s Rock offers some of the best views of the Horsetooth Reservoir and the city of Fort Collins. Arthur’s Rock is a very short drive from Fort Collins and a relatively short walk in between. This nearly two-mile trail leads through open meadows and stunning mountain scenery to the top of Arthur’s Rock, which rises to an elevation of 6,780 feet. There’s also a wonderful natural staircase that takes you to the top of the cliff and makes a perfect picnic stop if you’ve packed lunch.
Things That Will Make You Fall In Love With Fort Collins
The farm offers farm experiences for children and families. This is a great family attraction in Fort Collins that gives kids the chance to experience farm life.
Old Town Fort Collins has been designated a National and Local Historic District with 28 historic buildings. As you walk the streets of Old Town, you will discover a striking resemblance of Disneyland to Main Street USA. We are proud to say that Main Street USA is modeled after Fort Collins! The Old Town is full of local shops, cafes, antique shops, retail outlets, and sweet and savory shops. There are also many restaurants for all tastes. Pro tip: Be sure to walk down the street when you’re downtown to enjoy the local art, beautiful flowers, and attractive lighting.
One of Fort Collins’ favorite forms of public art is the Town About Pianos. More than 100 pianos have been painted and rotated all over Fort Collins. Feel free to call them and give them a play. It’s not uncommon to see amateur (and professional) pianists wandering around the city playing beautiful music.
Fort Collins has a growing food truck scene. On some Tuesday evenings during the summer, food trucks gather to serve delicious treats for the City Park Food Truck Rally. Food trucks visit many local breweries.

Did you know that Fort Collins is home to one of six remaining films in Colorado and only 348 remaining Holiday Twin Drive-Ins nationwide? Dual functions grace the screen from May to September.
Jessup Farms Artisan Village is home to handcrafted and locally sourced businesses in reclaimed and converted chicken coops, a bakery, a saddle shop, and an old barn and farm: Jessup Farm was one of the best in the Fort Collins Urban Development Area. the most preserved and intact farm complexes. It has received landmark protection designation from the city, state, and federal governments. The ranch is located on the east side of the road south of the Prospect and Timberline junction.
Fort Collins loves the music scene, and for good reason. Outdoor concert series usually starts in May and lasts until October, but don’t worry. Festivals, events, and other outdoor events often include live music, so you can catch some tunes in Fort Collins almost year-round.
On this street is a beautiful painting created by local artist Terry McNerney. This mural is located in a “hidden” street off Mountain Ave. and Walnut St. Next to the food cooperative. It has hosted famous people throughout history.
