Vail Stables offers great riding and is conveniently located near the Village. Five and six year olds can ride here but will be led by instructors to add an extra layer of safety.

All the goats are hand-raised Nigerian dwarfs so they are small and friendly. They are willing to sit on your lap and maybe even jump on your back when you are downward facing dog.
A yoga teacher knows that he will never have your full attention and does not try to compete with the goat. You take yoga poses but don’t be offended if you skip a place or two to pay attention to the little guy who decided to visit you.
In this botanical garden, the highest in North America, stone steps lead to paths through the garden. Waterfalls flow along it, forming a beautiful background for flowering plants.
Betty Ford Alpine Garden is adjacent to Ford Park’s large playground, the education center, the Gore River and the theater. Definitely worth a visit.

This unique location is in the heart of Vail Village, not far from the gondola. There are swings, slides and plenty of opportunities to inspire pirate-themed daydreams. The nearby river adds to the enjoyment in the summer months.
The Vail Farmers Market is always bustling. Located perfectly in the heart of Vail Village, this is a great place to eat, do some shopping and soak up all the vibes of Vail.

During the summer months, many of Vail’s ski trails become mountain bike trails. There are 343 kilometers of mountain bike trails, from expert runs to areas suitable for beginners.
You can rent mountain bikes in the city. Vail Mountain Bike Camps offers three-day mountain bike camps for kids ages 7-13.
Gore Creek runs through the center of Vail Village and in May and June, you can wade in a snow-swollen creek.
The falls are Class III only, making them an excellent choice for families with eight or more children.
Things To Do In Vail In Winter
The best river for families to ride all summer long is the Upper Colorado River. Yes – this river carved the Grand Canyon! But this section of the river is drier and surrounded by mountains.
This is a great ride for kids of all ages, as well as grandma and grandpa, because the falls are class II bouncy. This means they are not challenging but add an element of fun.
Vail is surrounded by beautiful mountain wilderness, so put on your hiking shoes and hit one of the many hiking trails.
Booth Falls is one of the most popular trails nearby. This 4.2 mile hike features great views of the surrounding rivers, valleys and forests. It gains more than 1300 feet, so this route is suitable for older children or experienced child climbers.
Vail Travel Cost
Parking is limited at the trailhead, but you can take the free City of Vail bus from Vail Village to access the trail.
Another challenging hike is to Lionshead Rock via the Cougar Ridge Trail. It’s a fair climb up to 1500 feet over two miles but the views are amazing. It seems that the two kilometers back are all downhill.
The Nahal Gur path is an excellent choice for families with small children in strollers. This is a paved trail that follows the creek between Vail and Lionshead. It is also a great place for cycling.
The Lost Lake Trail is a good choice if you are looking for a trail with a slight gradient and great views of the lake. It is seven miles long but you can make the trip as long or as short as you like on this out and back trail.
