All of these highest mountains are visible on land, but there may be many secrets hidden in the deep sky. Mauna Kea, a dormant volcano in Hawaii, does not make this list because of its low elevation, but it is actually much taller than Mount Everest at 33,500 feet (10,200 m) from peak to peak.
