The drive to our location takes about an hour. The scenery and rapids of Poudre Canyon are worth the drive. We raft the Cache La Poudre River, Colorado’s only national “wild and scenic” river. Unlike other pools and spillways in Colorado, the Poudre flows down a narrow canyon with near-constant rapids. Be on the lookout for wildlife such as deer, ducks, black eagles, bighorn sheep and black bears.

The most popular river in Northwest Colorado is the Yampa River. In fact, it is the longest undammed river in the state. Yampa river rafting trips are mostly lazy multi-day trips, perfect for a relaxing retreat and sightseeing in Yampa Canyon.

This epic and advanced section on the lush water near Kremling is reserved for experienced riders with expert guides only. There are many Class IV and V rapids, which are great when the CFS and water are high.
Down from Kremling and Gore Canyon is the Pumphouse Recreation Area. There are 3 boats for various excursions on II and III class rapids. It is located a few kilometers along the river
Near Glenwood Springs. It is really popular with groups of friends and families looking for half and full day trips. Your guide will also take you to primitive hot springs on the banks of the river (not radium). Due to the length of the river, there are shorter sections, although the river is also suitable for overnight camping/rafting.
Why Colorado Is One Of The Top Spots To Go White Water Rafting
The Animas River in question is a tributary of the San Juan River, which flows through downtown Pagosa Springs. It may not offer the longest stretch of river for rafting, or the most rapids, but a few months each season make for great introductory rafting.
It passes directly through the white water park of Pagosa. Then, when you swim one river, tackle one or both of the other local rivers.
Above the city’s San Juan River, there is another backwater nearby, the Piedra River. It is located north of the city deep in the national forest. From the top of the central San Juan Range, the Piedra River flows southwest of Pagosa Springs, 20 miles west of Pagosa and 40 miles east of Durango. At Arboles, it joins the San Juan River, flowing into Lake Navajo Reservoir.

If you’re feeling adventurous and want to experience the best of Colorado, combine it with an overnight rafting trip that reaches the Doña Piedra River the next day.
